In order to meet the unique learning needs of digital native learners, teachers need to transition from conventional teaching methods that do reflect the ways in which students today learn. However, the arbitrary use of technologies in instruction may not necessarily effectively engage digital age learners. Social media is popular among digital learners, as is video conferencing and texting. Yet will they be receptive of these tools attractive for classroom instruction? If so, which ones and why? Understanding the pedagogical applications of user-generated content tools with mobile devices is essential for effective use of the resources in adapting classroom instruction for the digital learner, but it is also essential to understand how digital learners view and use these tools and devices to better incorporate some, and others maybe not.

 

This session addresses the types of content-creation tools on mobile devices and their pedagogical use in project-based learning to foster learner autonomy. Most commonly used tools on mobile devices allow students not only explore the topic of their interest in depth individually but also create and share their collaborative learning into various forms with each other. The session highlights the following adaptations addressed; i) curriculum adaptation strategies to integrate mobile technology into learner-generated content, ii) planning and implementation guidelines to utilize content-creation tools in projects, iii) sample digital projects and the analysis, and iv) instructional strategies for assessment and feedback.
