Your Name: tanveer kaur Grade Level:10th School or Organization Name: kamla Nehru public school
Co-Presenter Name(s): piyush sudhir
Area of the World from Which You Will Present: india Language in Which You Will Present: english Target Audience(s): students and educators
Short Session Description (one line): technology and the social justice Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The technology of synthetic materials has also helped to erase differences between rich and poor. Throughout history, until the nineteenth century, only the rich could afford to dress in brilliant colors, furs, and silk. Fine clothes were a badge of privilege and wealth. In the nineteenth century the chemical industry produced artificial dyestuffs. More recent technologies that contributed in a practical way to social justice were those of public health—clean water supplies, sewage treatment, vaccination, antibiotics. These technologies could only be effective in protecting the rich from contagion and sickness if they were also available to the poor. Even if the rich and powerful receive preferential treatment, as they usually do, the benefits of public health technology are felt to some extent by everybody. In countries where public health technologies are enforced by law, there is no large gap in life expectancy between rich and poor.

Thank you for your proposal. Is this topic one in which you have conducted active research or is this a research project from your class.  We would prefer that presentations focus on specific projects, programs or activities.
