Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Education has made no significant change over the past century. Their model, ineffective for many decades, remains constant: teach to test in buildings with walls separating the students by grade (age) . It is a hierarchical model with the learners at the bottom and teachers a close second.

Next Generation Global Education (NGGE) is creating an anti-system; a learner driven model of education.  “A Matrix of a Learner")

We'll look at the parts of the matrix and how they support each other.  In the center of the matrix along with the learner is the Universal Library for Learners.  This is the educational environment created by learners for learners from around the world.  It is created with resources submitted by members. As in a library, these are categorized for easy browsing so the individual can select resources suited best for their interests, levels and learning methods.  Once the learner has selected the materials to be explored they put them together, with their coaches support, to form their course of study which, for young learners, may be as short a period as a day or week.  Older learners are more able to plan for a month, semester or even the year. Furthermore, the learner is no longer limited to the support of one or two people within their brick and mortar environment but a wealth of people within the library.

What are the ramifications of such a system? Will we have as many disruptive students in the classroom?  Will labeling be necessary?  Can standardized tests be replaced?  Can we cut school budgets and use that money which is received more effectively?  Will we lower the rate of drop-outs?  Can we once again make learning fun - and rewarding for all participates of the Matrix?  I believe the answer is YES to these questions!  Explore the model with me and see for yourself.
