The presenter will share her journey and offer advices to developing her leadership via extracurricular as a sophomore in high school.

According to the U.S. News and World Report (2016), developing collaboration, leadership and communication skills during high school to succeed in college and beyond. Extracurricular activities present great opportunities to develop these invaluable professional skills. However, how do students balance academic demands and additional time required to engage in extracurricular activities such as student organizations? The presenter who attends the prestigious Lynbrook High School will offer her observations and recommendations.

 

Lynbrook High School is ranked 18th within California, United States. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Lynbrook High School is 80 percent (the U.S. News and World Report, 2016).

 

The presenter will share her journey in selecting the student organizations, her role(s), leadership/communication skills developed so far, technology apps to help her to be more productive, time management and more.

 

Here’s a list of extracurricular activates (including her role) that will be elaborated in the session.

    • DECA (DECA is a student-run business organization that offers high school students an opportunity to delve into the areas of marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, etc. Elected as Treasure, 2015-2016)
    • Epic (Lynbrook Student News Paper, Reporter 2015-2016)
    • Girl Scout (Silver Award, 2015. Currently working on the Gold Award similar to the Eagle Boy Scout Award.)
    • Home Coming (elected as Princess, October 2015)
    • Stanford Public Health Leadership Camp (Summer 2015)
    • Toast Master Junior local chapter (elected as President in 2015)
    • Wisdom Chinese Culture Summer Camp Leader (Summer 2015)
