Short session description: Creating Global Citizens

Long session description:

Global citizenship nurtures personal respect and respect for others. It encourages individuals to think deeply and critically about what is equitable, and what will minimize harm to our planet. Exploring global citizenship themes help learners grow more confident in standing up for their beliefs, and more skilled in evaluating the ethics and impact of their decisions . I think,  a Global Citizen is someone who:

  • is aware of the wider world problems.
  • has an understanding of how the world works and knows the best practice in developing global projects and collaborations.
  • is outraged by social injustice
  • is willing to act to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place.
    • takes responsibility for their actions
    • knows how to use technology in making the people aware about what is happening in this world.

With the interconnected and interdependent nature of our world, the global is not ‘out there’; it is part of our everyday lives, as we are linked to others on every continent:

  • Socially and culturally through the media and telecommunications, and through travel and migration. This is how the technology is being used in globalization.
  • Economically through trade.
    • Environmentally through sharing one planet.
    • Politically through international relations and systems of regulation.
    • Our school is also a global school. It teaches us how to make right decisions and how to connect and collaborate while solving or addressing any worldwide problem.
    • Education for global citizenship deals with issues of global interdependence, diversity of identities and cultures, sustainable development, peace & conflict and inequities of power, resources & respect.
    • A global citizen must try to overcome all these problems one by one to make this world a better place to live .
